Novel Solutions To Process Big Data

Since 2011, the City of Austin has used FME workspaces to power the data creation for its FloodPro Web Application (http://atxfloodpro.com). FloodPro is responsible for automatically distributing a variety of FEMA, floodplain, and storm drain-related information. This web application allows internal and external users to receive engineering models and related GIS data instantly. Initially, the FloodPro workspaces took upwards of eight days to process. Over the past several years, numerous optimization and enhancements have resulted in improved processing time. The latest project, undertaken with Consortech Solutions, resulted in changes to business practices and the creation and application of novel solutions in data processing. Using these methods, we reduced the processing time to approximately one hour. This presentation will provide an overview of the implemented traditional methods and detail the new approach created by Consortech Solutions, Inc.
